WASD 2022 - Speedrunning for Charity

Warwick's Awesome Speedruns and Demos

Started in 2016, Warwick's Awesome Speedruns and Demos (WASD) is a 2-day speedrunning event held annually at the University of Warwick - it's the largest student-run speedrunning event in the UK! Past events have featured a diverse range of games and categories, from Final Fantasy IX to Rise of the Tomb Raider, from Super Monkey Ball to Parasite Eve II. And we've been featured on the front page of Twitch!

We're aiming to run WASD 2022 over a weekend in mid-June, just after exams have finished. This will be in collaboration with both the University of Warwick Computing Society (UWCS), and Warwick Esports.

Donations to the event are in support of SpecialEffect, a wonderful UK-based charity whose mission is to put fun and inclusion back into the lives of people with physical disabilities, by helping them to play video games. They achieve this by using and developing a range of accessibility hardware and software, from modified joypads to eye-gaze technology. To date, WASD events have raised over £6,000 for them!

You don't need to be the best in the world. Give it your best shot!

  1. Find a game you're good at
  2. Pick a category
  3. Practice the run!
  4. Record your run with a Speedrun timer
  5. Make a submission!

Provisonally, submissions will close at midnight going into 23rd May. We can't wait to see your runs...

The event will be hybrid, with runs both in-person at the University of Warwick, and Online - we're aiming for a 50/50 split.
