ESA Winter 2023 is a week-long in-person speedrunning marathon at the Quality Hotel View in Malmö (Sweden), featuring speedrunners and score-attackers from all around the world with the primary goal of raising money for our charity partner Alzheimerfonden. The Swedish Alzheimer's Foundation wants nothing less than to eradicate dementia once and for all. To achieve this goal they fund the research for preventive measures, inhibiting drugs and ultimately a cure.
For this event we are looking for on-site showcases only and won't be featuring online runs.

Changes
For ESA Summer 2022 we went back to a longer submission timeline as well as a second submission phase for chase games just prior to the schedule release.
We won't make any changes to the process for ESA Winter 2023, but are adding a commentary exhibition as a new mandatory field.
Commentary quality is often the deciding factor when choosing showcases for the marathon. It's what keeps viewers engaged and focused on the stream and becomes more important the longer the game goes on for.
This commentary exhibition can be a VOD of a past marathon appearance or a custom recording with commentary (it can be an example of another submission entirely if you like).
This means that the videos you submit together with your games and categories can be PB videos or uncommentated runs and don't need to demonstrate what the showcase would look like in a marathon setting. It helps if they do, but by having a second video to look at for commentary we no longer need them to be.
Guidelines
There is a limit of five submissions per runner. You can submit multiple different categories for the same game, but these will count towards your personal total.
Please read our full Submission Guidelines before submitting.
ESA carries out suitability checks on runners and commentators based on the information included in your submission(s). Please be aware that ESA reserves the right to decline runners or commentators for behaviour outside of the event as judged against the ESA Code of Conduct. By submitting you agree to these terms and conditions.
Required Text Fields
Commentary Exhibition
We're trying something new by introducing this mandatory field because being able to judge commentary quality is very important to us. This can be a VOD of a past marathon appearance or a commentated version of one of your submitted showcases. This is new, so contact us if you have any questions / comments.
Leaderboard Links
Please provide the links to the leaderboards of games you submitted, whether they exist on speedrun.com or elsewhere. If there are no leaderboards relevant to your submission, feel free to provide a meme of your choice instead to fulfil the requirements of the form.
Donation Incentives / Bid Wars
If there are any donation incentives and / or bid wars that you would like to submit with your game(s), please submit them here separated by game. Keep in mind that the description should be able to explain the content to somebody who has no idea about the game.
Volunteering
Marathons like this one are impossible without the hard working volunteers behind them. Please consider applying here: https://submissions.esamarathon.com/dashboard/applications
Prize Submissions
Prizes are a great way to incentivize more donations towards a good cause. If you wish to give away something awesome in the name of charity, please send an e-mail to [email protected] !
