It's back!

Hey all, Amber here! So remember how in...

  • 2020 we did Sonic and the Shiny Things
  • 2021 we did Sonic and the Side Quests
  • 2022 we did Sonic and the Glitchless Gauntlet?

Well, after months of rumours, a totally real exposé in GQ Magazine's "Speedrunner's Weekly" column, and even a cameo in a blockbuster movie, it's my pleasure to announce the fourth event in the series:

⭐ Sonic and the Parallel Worlds! ⭐

All accepted runners need to be willing to give permission for GDQ to access your public social media channels in order to complete the vetting process as per their rules regarding their Harassment Policy and unacceptable behavior while off-stream.

Your commentators are also subject to this vetting process.

For some more info on that, please see this: Games Done Quick Event Rules

Note: While many of the rules on this page have to do with in person events, the Harassment Policy and Off-Stream behavior sections are good guidelines in regards to what we look out for during our vetting process.

We must ask that submissions keep to the following content rules:

  • Content within the fangame must be maximum PG-13, and ideally family friendly
  • Any modded content, such as music mods, must contain no copyright infinging content that would trigger a copyright notice or content ID warning

If you are unsure on either, then err on the side of caution and do not submit the run.

Event Criteria

This year, we are looking for Sonic Fangames, ROM modifications, and Game Mods!

While this isn't a definitive list, to give you an idea of what we are looking for, consider submitting games that do one of the following:

  • Reimagine or remaster a classic Sonic game for modern systems
  • Fangames that have been built from the ground up with passion, showing a high level of polish
  • Mods that alter an existing Sonic game/fangame in significantly interesting, different, or unique ways

When it comes to what games you could submit for the event, have a look at the Sonic Fan Games board on This list is by no means exhaustive, but may give you an idea of some options!

Glitched and Glitchless runs are allowed. Given the wide array of Sonic fangames, you do not even have to submit a run that has an existing leaderboard or category. We want your best, most fun, and enjoyable showcases, whatever they may be!

Why Fangames?

SEGA has embraced Sonic fangames in a really positive fashion, allowing the community to grow and some truly incredible projects come to light in recent times. There are some hidden gems in the fangames series, and some very interesting ones as well!

Fangames allow regular gamers and speedrunners an opportunity to experience new stories and levels, play classic games on modern systems, and modify the existing games to provide a new take on a classic.

As always, I’m open to suggestions on future event themes, and would love to hear from you if you have any ideas!

Once again, fellow Hotfix Showrunner Hibnotix is joining me this year to assist with Organizing, Game Selection, and Hosting during the event!
